History

In olden days, there was a king named Mandhag. He was very cruel and was an enemy of the Brahmins. Due to his fault, there was no rain in his kingdom for twelve years. Due to no rain, all the rivers dried up and many rivers disappeared. All the yagnas, chanting of Vedas and sacrifices were stopped. Confusion prevailed on the Earth. The people killed one another. All the Devas got worried and went to Vishnu Lok. They explained to Lord Vishnu about the situation. Lord Vishnu instructed them to worship the Shivalinga near Pratihareshwar in Mahakal forest. They all did as per Lord Vishnu's advice. Lord Shiva got happy and created a cloud from which rain began to pour. Normal life existed again. The Linga came to be known as Meghnadeshwar. Whoever worships this Linga, will have their wishes fulfilled and reaches heaven after death.
