The temple is situated 7 km from Thirunelveli No much facilities available near the temple so stay at Thirunelveli and visit this temple.

 

History

Legend has it that Sage Romasa, a disciple of Sage Agastya, wanted to install a Shivling on the banks of Tamiraparani River. He was not able to decide on a location. He took the help of his Guru who asked him to throw flowers used in Shiva Puja in river. Sage Agastya asked his disciple to install Shivlingin places where the flowers reached the shores. Kunnathur Temple is built at the spot where a lotus flower reached. The shrine is also an important place associated with Navgraha Rahu. The Shivling worshipped in the temple is unique as it has snake carved on the lingam.

 

Architecture

Kotha Parameswarar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva and is located at Kunnathur Village in Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu. The temple is around 2 km from Tirunelveli Railway Station. The temple is located atop a small hill and Shiva is worshipped here as Kothai Parameswaran. His consort is Goddess Sivakamasundari. This is the fourth among the nine Nava Kailasam temples.
