The deity of Ambabai is carved from precious black stone holding a citrus fruit, mace, shield, and bowl. A remarkable architectural marvel, Kiranotsav (Festival of Sun Rays), occurs twice a year when the setting sun's rays fall directly upon the feet, chest, and face of the Mother.
The Sacred Legend (Sthala Purana)
According to legend, Kolhasura, a righteous demon turned tyrant, prayed to the Divine Mother during his final moments to name the city after him and grant eternal blessings to all pilgrims who visit. Goddess Lakshmi blessed the region to remain forever free from poverty and sorrow.
