History
When the ocean of milk was churned, Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared and performed penance here to wed Lord Vishnu. Vishwakseana fixed the auspicious moment for the divine wedding, which was celebrated with divine splendour in the presence of 33 crore devas. As the Lord emerged from the ocean for Mother Mahalakshmi, He is praised as Perum Pura Kadal.
Architecture & Features
The temple qualifies as a Saptha Punya Kshetra. The Devas who witnessed the divine wedding took the form of honeybees to stay near Mother's shrine forever; a natural bee hive exists on the northern side of Her shrine to this day. A one-day stay in this holy place is believed to bestow total salvation.
