History
To protect a devoted priest who mistakenly offered a second-hand garland with a strand of hair to the king, the Lord manifested real hair (Sowri) on His divine head, earning the name Sowriraja Perumal. In this temple, the Lord taught the Ashtakshara Mantra to Thirumangai Alwar. The temple is also famous for its night offerings of "Munayadharian Pongal".
Architecture & Features
Built by King Uparisiravasu with the divine architect Viswakarma, the temple stands as a significant shrine among the 108 Divya Desams. Instead of having a Sorgavasal for Ekadasi, the temple itself is considered a terrestrial Vaikuntam.
