Location

This Temple is located in Mylapore on the Madhava Perumal Koil Street, perpendicular to Bazaar Road, to the north of the famous Kapaleeswarar Temple, to the East of the Sanskrit College, to the West of the Chennai Radio Station and to the South of Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai

History

Once when Saint Brihu pleaded Lordess Mahalakshmi for want of child, Lordess Herself came and born as a female child to Saint Brihu. He named the child as Amirthavalli and brought Her up. Lord Vishnu came as Lord Madhavan and married Lordess Amirthavalli at Madhavapuram on the tamil month Panguni (Mar - Apr) on Uthrada Nakshathram (Star). Lord Mahavishnu's Nandhagam (Sword) was manifested as Pei Alwar (Foremost of the Mudhal Alwars) near this temple from Red Water Lilly well called Manikairagam on the tamil month Aipasi (Oct - Nov) on Sadhaya Nakshathram (Star).
