Architecture

This temple was built by Kochengotan Cholan and one of the Mada koil built by him. The beauty of this temple is that it is built on the top of an Elephant statue.

History

Once Iravadham (White Elephant) vehicle of Lord Indra was in deep penance on Lord Shiva here. Indra came in search of Iravadham got angered on finding it here. He sent his Vajra Ayutham on Iravadham. Lord Shiva intervened and diverted it. The place where Vajra Ayudham fell turned as a spring and latter called as Vajra theertham. Lord Indra repelled for it and worshipped Lord Shiva along with Iravadham on Poorataadhi Star  here. It is also told that Kala Bhairava created seven days and placed them on an elephant and took procession around this temple on Poorataadhi star. Hence this temple is special for Poorataadhi Star people and if they worship Lord  and Lordess here atleast once a year on their janma nakshathra, will find solution for all their problem.
