Architecture

History

Maharshi Mangalya, born in Uthiram star, was the Acharya in the marriage of Sage Agasthya and Sage Vasishta and Bhairava. The whole power of his penance was in his fore palms. He is the authority for all Akshada (rice coated with turmeric being sprayed on couples and while blessing others) angels flying in the air with garlands. The custom of printing wedding invitation now a days with the pictures of these deities came into practice based on this story. During the marriage events, it is believed that the Rishi prays for the parties in this temple invisibly. Also, the choice of Panguni Uthiram day for marriages is backed by this story.
