Once in Devdharu forest, many Brahmins were performing penance. Even after thousand years, they did not get the result for that. So all the Brahmins got worried and started insulting the Devas. The sky voice then stated that their penance did not bear any result as there was egoism in between them. It also asked the Brahmins to worship the Shivalinga in Mahakal forest to obtain the desired result as even the Sanakadhik sages attained salvation by worshipping this Linga. All the Brahmins worshipped the Shivalinga and obtained their desirable results. Whoever worships this Linga with devotion, will attain salvation.
