Shiveshwar Mahadev
|
Long ago, a king named Ripunjaya ruled Mahakal forest. He was a generous ruler and was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Because of him, nobody worshipped Lord Shiva in his kingdom. During his period, Lord Shiva established a Shivalinga in Mahakal forest but could not establish a Linga at Ujjain. He then ordered his followers to establish a Linga at Ujjain. His followers, in guise of Brahmins entered Ujjain and began to cure many diseases of the people. Who did not have any children, the followers gave some medicine and they got a child. Their fame began to spread. The king's beloved wife Bahula Devi also did not have any child. So, along with her friend she went to the followers and requested them. They said that without the orders of the king, they could not enter the palace. The queen acted as if she was not well and went to the Brahmins along with the king. When the couple met the Brahmins, they got transformed into a Linga. They worshipped the Linga and Lord Shiva blessed them with a child of good qualities. The Linga came to be known as Shiveshwar. Whoever worships this Linga, will be freed from his sins and will be one of the devotees of Lord Shiva. |
