Location

This temple is situated 8 kms from Thiruvidaimarudhur by crossing river kaveri and turning left on Poombuhar road.

Architecture

This temple was built before 1st Century as inscriptions of King Parantaka I (907 - 955 AD) then by Rajaraja Chola I, Rajendra Chola II.

History

Legend here is Eight Siva Yogis attained salvation and merged with the lingam. Hence the Lord is called as Sivayoginathar. Another special feature of this temple is the Bairavar is called as Chaturkala Bairavar and there are four Baivaravar in this temple. The Nandi in this temple is outside the flag-post (Kodi Maram). Once there was a fight between Nandi and Yama Dharma for a siva devotee and was won by Nandi. Hence here Nandhi safegurads Rishaba Vahanam and relieves dhoshas of the peoples belonging to Rishaba zodiac signs.
