This temple is near Trichy. There are plenty of local buses from Trichy to this place. This place is well known as Uyyakkondanmalai than Karkudi.

Architecture

 

History

As the deity here is in stone on a hill, it is called as Karkudi. This temple was built by Nandhivarma Pallava and later renovated by Cholas and Pandiyas. Lord Shiva here promised Saint Markandeeya to save him from the clutches of death. This scene is encarved at the top of the temple. Demon Karan, Lord Naradha,Saint Ubamanyu, Markandeeya, Arunagirinathar worshipped Lord here.

Festival

Bramhotsavam in this temple is celebrated in the tamil month of Panguni(March-April)
