Architecture

History
As the deity here is in stone on a hill, it is called as Karkudi. This temple was built by Nandhivarma Pallava and later renovated by Cholas and Pandiyas. Lord Shiva here promised Saint Markandeeya to save him from the clutches of death. This scene is encarved at the top of the temple. Demon Karan, Lord Naradha,Saint Ubamanyu, Markandeeya, Arunagirinathar worshipped Lord here. |
