Six worship services are offered each day here. The temple is about 2000 years old. There is a Vishnu temple nearby and an image of Kali within its precincts.

History

It is believed that Lord Brahma (in the form of a bird) is said to have worshipped Lord Shiva to retrieve his original form, hence this place was called as Brahmapuri or Punnakavanam. Lord Shiva is said to have appeared here in the fiery Bhairava form as Sattanathar for the sake of Indra, hence it is also called as Indrapuri. The tank here is said to have been created by Brahma.
