Once Demon Ravana did penance vigorously on Lord Shiva and admiring the penance Lord Shiva appeared before him and asked his wish to be fulfilled. Ravana asked for the Athma Linga of Lord Shiva and Lord Shiva granted It saying wherever he place the Athma Linga, It will get installed there.
