History

Legend here is Pakshiraja Jadayu was killed by Demon king Ravana. When Ravana was kidnaping Lordess Sita from Pachavadi, Jadayu liked to stop him and save Lordess from the clutches of Ravana. Jadayu waged war with Ravana. Jadayu killed all the horses on the chariot of Ravana and pushed Ravana down from the chariot. Ravana became furious, took the sword 'Chandrakaasam' which was gifted by Lord Shiva to Ravana, and killed Jadayu. Since Jadayu was killed by the sword given by Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva appeared before him and asked Jadayu to ask his boon. Jadayu asked Lord Shiva should appear here in his name, the place where his feather fallen should be a pond in his name, Jadayu should have his life till he conveys this message to Lord Rama, and Jadayu should attain Shivapadavi. Lord Shiva granted all the boon and appeared here as Jadayupureeswarar.
