History

This temple is one of the Nava-Kailaayam Temples around Thirunelveli on the banks of Tamarabarani River representing Moon God. Sage Agasthiyar guided his disciple Sage Uromacha to have a bath at the confluence of Tamabarani River, float nine flowers in the River and worship Lord Shiva at the places where the each flower stops to attain Mukthi.
