Location

The temple is situated in Uthamanpallayam in Theni District on the banks of River Suruli. Uthamanpallayam is on Theni - Kambam route. So it is easy to access this temple either from Kambam or Theni.

Architecture

This temple was built by King Thirumavarma Pandian. Lord here was a Swayambu Lingam found under a Jackfruit Tree (Palaa Maram). Lordess was found floating on river suruli and Lord Muruga was found in marriage while digging for the temple. There is no Navagraha in this temple. Rasi Mandapam for 12 Rasi and 27 Stars  was constructed in the Western side on the temple. There is a statue of Garuda at the entrance of the temple called as Visha Raja. It is believed that the poison of snake bite will be removed here. Hence this temple is a Ragu-Kethu Parihara Stalam.

History

Legend here is Lord gave dharshan as Kalahasteeswarar to an aged person Pichai as he could not visit Kalahasthi. The speciality here is the River Suruli is flowing here from south to north called as Utharvaahini as Ganges in Kashi.
