Architecture
There are two shrines 1) Chathurvedeeswarar 2) Nootreteeswarar inside the temple. The Chathurvedeeswarar was there even before Sage Agastyar installed Nootreteeswar. It is said that the temple was renovated by ancient king Nandhivarman during his reign. |
History
Agyastar worshiped Siva here. He made 107 siva lingas and at that time he remembered that he forgot to worship Lord Ganesha. All 107 lingas together formed as Ganesha under the sthala vruksham. The ganesha is swayambu and there is no trunk for him. 108th linga which Agastyar made is known as Nootreteeswarar and that is the one we worship in the temple. |
