Uniquely, the sanctum contains no stone or metallic idol. Instead, devotees worship a sanctified wooden cradle or swing (Jhula) draped in silk and flowers, symbolizing the unmanifest, formless presence (Alopi — 'the one who disappeared') of the Divine Mother.
The Sacred Legend (Sthala Purana)
Prayag is known as Prakrishta Yaga, the sacred confluence where Lord Brahma performed the first cosmic sacrifice. As Lord Vishnu released his Sudarshana Chakra, Prayag marked the final site where the remaining parts of Sati Devi fell and merged invisibly into the supreme divine consciousness.
