Raaghu is the Moon's Ascending Node. He is the commander for the Number 4 in astrology, i.e. the persons having date in the date of birth as 4, 13, 22. Raaghu was born to the demon Viprasithi and Simmihai.

Once, when the milky ocean was churned, a lot of invaluables emerged — among them Kamadhenu (Cow), Iyyravadham (Elephant), Ujjai Siras (Horse), Karpaga Vritcham (Tree), and Nectar. Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini and distributed the Nectar only to the Devas, as the Asuras were being served separately. On knowing this, Raaghu took the form of a Deva and sat among them to receive the Nectar. The Sun and Moon, seeing this, informed Lord Vishnu in the form of Mohini, who chopped off Raaghu's head with the Nectar-serving stick. The body and head fell separately on the Earth. The body of Raaghu, joined with the Serpent King Vasuki's head, became "Kethu," and the head of Raaghu joined with Vasuki's body became "Raaghu." He had a wife, Chitraleka, and a son, Avamirthu. He takes one and a half years to move from one Rasi (Zodiac) to another. The stars under his control are Asvini, Magam, and Moolam; he does not have any Rasi under his control, and moves in the anti-clockwise direction between the Rasis. Once Kethu is at the 12th position from the Lagna in a horoscope, that person will not have a next birth.
